About the Knights of Columbus
Founded in March of 2001, the St. Mary's Parish Knights of Columbus Council, Our Lady of Knock Council #12882, is a Catholic men's fraternal organization open to men 18 years of age and older.
The Council, which consists of 101 members, was formed to support St. Mary's Parish and the Minooka/Channahon community by rendering financial aid to members and their families, providing mutual aid and assistance to sick, disabled and needy members and their families, and ensuring social and intellectual fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational, charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.
The Council also provides opportunities for Catholic men to deepen their faith, support and protect their families, become involved in St. Mary's Parish, support the local community, and enjoy the fellowship of other Catholic men.
Some of the examples of activities the Council sponsors are as follows:
- Annual sponsorship of local seminarians from sale of Vocation Raffle Tickets
- Spaghetti Dinners with Youth Group
- Intellectual Disabilities / Tootsie Roll Drive in September
- Quarterly Community Blood Drives
- Parish Breakfast on the Fourth Sunday of each month - alternating Pancakes and French Toast
- Parish Euchre Nights to provide financial assistance for the Parish Scholarship Council
- Bean Bag Tournament at the Minooka Summerfest
- Council Family social outings such as Family Bowling Event, Family Picnic, etc.
The Knights of Columbus are proud to announce they received its 4000th blood donation at its Jan 28th drive at St Ann's Parish Hall. The Knights have been sponsoring drives since 2002 for Heartland Blood Centers. Ron Yungk from St Anns KC's and John Bukowski from St Mary's KC's are blood drive coordinators for their respective councils. In addition 102 units were collected as we shoot for 5000.
Euchre is held on the 3rd Saturday of each month in the parish center after the 5:00 Mass.
Fundraiser Breakfasts are held on the 4th Sunday of each month in the parish center from 8:00 am - 11:00 am.
The monthly Knights meeting is held on the 4th Thursday of each month in the parish center at 6:00 pm.
