What is the Parish Leadership Team?

The Parish Leadership Team (PLT) assists the pastor in fulfilling his responsibility to oversee the spiritual well-being and organizational integrity of the entire parish. Members of the PLT are expected to look beyond their individual roles or specific areas of expertise, embracing a collective responsibility for promoting a healthy, mission-oriented parish community. 

What does the PLT do?

Just as Peter, James, and John walked closely with Jesus to support His mission, the PLT meets regularly with the pastor to help ensure the parish remains aligned with its most critical pastoral priorities at any given time. Through prayer, discernment, and strategic planning, the PLT collaborates with and supports other parish leaders—including staff and council members—to implement initiatives that advance the mission of the parish.

How is the PLT selected?

The pastor prayerfully discerns and invites a small group of individuals to serve on the PLT. These members are chosen based on key spiritual and personal qualities: a deep relationship with Jesus and a visible commitment to prayer, a sincere desire to evangelize and share the faith, humility that prioritizes the mission and the team over personal recognition, a strong internal drive and work ethic, and the ability to exercise sound judgment and interpersonal sensitivity in collaborative settings.

Where does this idea come from?

Amazing Parish is a Catholic non-profit organization co-founded by business and organizational health leaders Pat Lencioni and John Martin, who after much prayer and discernment and lengthy discussions with Catholic leaders, agreed that the Holy Spirit was prompting them to help parishes transform from maintenance to missionary communities.
