Quilters

ST. MARY’S QUILTERS

St. Mary’s quilters’ group was organized in February of 1994 with Patricia Nugent, as leader and the following members:

Irene Gale       Marsha Womersley    Robin White    Betty Kinsella  Nancy Clark     Marie Shields

Winona Bols    Charlotte McHugh      Donna McClintock

Later Alice Connor, Wanda Brown  and Linda Friant joined our group.

Due  to  moves, work and other reasons, we have lost ladies and  but have also gained a few.

In 2015 our group consisted of:  Marsha ,  Betty, Linda, Wanda, Alice, and Marion Dugan.

We meet each Tuesday morning after mass to quilt, visit, have  coffee and goodies.  Every now and then we  tour  quilt shops or go out to lunch.

Our goal is to make a quilt to be raffled each year at our annual Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner in March.  We usually make another quilted project to supplement the quilt raffle.

The proceeds from the raffle  are used to purchase supplies for the next quilt and  the majority of the money is used to purchase  items for St. Mary’s.  We always ask Father, each year,  for suggestions.

Some of the things were:  a beautiful Altar cloth (Fr. Frank chose this), bibles for CCD class students, red and  green scarves, a can opener, high chairs, booster seats, card  tables and chairs, a wine decanter, cloths for the wine servers, candle lighters, vacuum cleaners, the shelf for the infant of Prague statue, money for 2 new animals for the outside cre’che.  One year the money was used for a convection oven .  In 2012 the money was used to repair the Eternal light which hangs above the altar.  It was damaged when it malfunctioned.

We enjoy the times spent together each week.  In addition to quilting, we enjoy each others’ company and learn more about each one’s family and friends, as well as help solve the world’s problems.

Carol Fremarek joined us during the summer months this year.  She works with the school system, so cannot be with us all year.

In addition to this, Betty Kinsella made  the large banner that hangs in the church and the CCW banner that is in the basement.
